5 tips for staying safe during a winter power outage

(BPT) - Winter is in full swing. It's a beautiful season, but as the temperature drops and the snow, ice and cold approach, there's always the possibility of a power outage. When it's cold outside and your home is plunged into darkness, it can be more than just an inconvenience. It can mean not being able to keep your family warm, to work if your power is out, even to get water if your pipes freeze.

The best way to get through a winter power outage? Be prepared. A little forethought can save a lot of headaches later. Here are some tips for handling a winter power outage from Anker SOLIX, the experts in whole-home backup power solutions.

Assemble an emergency kit. Make sure you have all the things on hand that your family needs to get through a power outage. You'll be home, so you've already got warm blankets and clothes covered. You'll also want several gallons of bottled water and food that doesn't have to be heated up like granola bars, fruit and nuts. Pop some new batteries into your flashlights before you need them, and get a weather radio if you don't already have one. Also think about getting solar chargers for your phones, some battery-powered candles and hand warmers.

Invest in backup power. When the lights and heat go out, you need backup. The Anker SOLIX F3800 Portable Power Station is an accessible whole-home power backup. It's the first power station to feature AC coupling and support home solar power cycling when paired with the Anker SOLIX Home Power Panel. Easy installation only takes a few hours by a professional electrician, and with a cost-effective price point, the F3800 is the most accessible home power solution available on the market.

The F3800 can provide back-up power for the entire home. It offers 6000W AC power output and 120V/240V dual voltage output, enabling it to simultaneously power high-energy devices. The AC output power can even be elevated up to 12,000W when two F3800s are combined. At the same time, it boasts a massive 3.84kWh internal battery for extended backup power. With its expandable form factor, users can customize their power storage needs with up to 53.76kWh when combining two F3800s and up to 12 additional batteries, providing up to a week of home backup power. You can also charge your EVs!

For a more compact solution, the Anker SOLIX C300 DC, is a new compact-but-mighty power station. It can power seven devices at once, a space heater and more for shorter periods of time. It recharges via solar energy, so you can power it up again and again. And it comes with a built-in light, which is handy during those dark nights when power goes out.

Make sure the pipes don't freeze. When the power goes out, open the cabinet doors under your kitchen and bathroom sinks and turn on the faucets, just a trickle. That will help ensure the pipes don't freeze in the cold.

Keep your refrigerator door closed. This will help keep the cold air in, preserving your food. General safety guidelines say your fridge will keep food cold for four hours during an outage. If the outage lasts longer than that, it's best to throw away things like dairy, meats, eggs and leftovers.

Don't be tempted to heat with your gas stove. This can cause a backup of carbon monoxide gas, which can be deadly.

4 realistic resolutions for working parents to consider in 2025 powered by Bigdoggpinc

I'm your Eyeball Acquisition Specialist! Achieving success in life, no matter the field, hinges on how many people you can connect with and make a positive impression on. Online shopping in the US has surged in popularity recently, with more and more individuals opting to buy products and services online. 4 realistic resolutions for working parents to consider in 2025

(BPT) - The 2024 U.S. Surgeon General's Advisory shed light on the immense amount of stress parents are under. Part of this is due to the pressure that comes with raising children, working and wanting to be a high performer in every aspect of life. With the new year in full swing, now is a great time to make small, attainable resolutions that have the power to lower stress levels, enhance well-being and improve family dynamics.

"Letting your child see you relax, play and take things a little less seriously is a great way to model behavior that they can emulate someday," said Joy Turner, vice president of education at Kiddie Academy®.

Here are a few realistic resolutions to help you get started:

1. Find out what your child is learning in school and connect it to your life at home.

A conversation with your child care provider is an easy way to extend what your child is learning beyond the walls of the classroom. For example, if you know the curriculum is highlighting bears one week in school, you can base your home activities around that same learning. Make a "bear snack" of apples dipped in honey, build a "bear cave" out of blankets or simply crawl around on the floor growling like bears. Transferring learning greatly benefits your child and takes the guesswork out of at-home playtime while supporting continued development.

2. Spend more time playing.

According to research from Kiddie Academy, 56% of parents indicate that they feel guilty for not spending enough time with their children, while 26% struggle to teach things like critical thinking skills, helping their little ones create connections with others (25%) and building confidence (23%). All of these skills can be learned through child-led play where your child's imagination is left to wander and create. Instead of feeling the need to schedule structured activities, take this as an opportunity to enjoy the learning-through-play process with your little one.

3. Read one book a day with your child at home.

One of the most beneficial things you can do at home for your child's education is to read at least one book together every day. According to research from The Ohio State University, children whose parents read to them on a daily basis hear nearly 300,000 words by the time they turn five years old. By reading more with your child this year, you'll not only contribute to their healthy development, but you'll also get to spend extra quality time together.

Setting a quiet family reading time each day is another beneficial practice — for both children and parents. During this time, bring out developmentally appropriate books, like "I Spy" for children who can't read independently yet and early reader books for older children, and grab a book for yourself as well.

4. Give yourself a break.

Including your child in more tasks around the house that you would typically complete alone can help teach responsibility and independence that can eventually alleviate some of the parental workload. While it might take a little time at the start, your little ones can help with small tasks like putting laundry in the hamper and cleaning up toys.

Don't forget to take a break from parenting — both physically and mentally. Schedule time to step away — even if it's just taking an hour to do something for yourself before you pick up your child for the day — and remind yourself that you're doing a good job.

"Working parents face unique challenges in managing their time and resources to take care of their families," said Turner. "Leaning on their village, whether that's family, friends or a child care provider, can help them balance the emotional and physical demands of parenting while freeing up time for them to enjoy being with their children."

Spring into financial security: Refresh your fraud awareness this season powered by Bigdoggpinc

I'm your Eyeball Acquisition Specialist! Achieving success in life, no matter the field, hinges on how many people you can connect with and make a positive impression on. Online shopping in the US has surged in popularity recently, with more and more individuals opting to buy products and services online. Spring into financial security: Refresh your fraud awareness this season

(BPT) - As flowers bloom and the days grow longer, it's the perfect time for a little spring cleaning — not just for your home, but for your financial security too! Last year, consumers worldwide lost a staggering $1 trillion to all types of scams. Just as you declutter and refresh your space, take this opportunity during Fraud Prevention Month to dust off your fraud awareness and fortify your financial safeguards with tips from Cecilie Fjellhøy and Mastercard.

"A scam can potentially leave you in a challenging financial position and feeling personally ashamed. As someone who became a victim, I want others to be alert and aware of the tactics fraudsters use to deceive others," said Fjellhøy, advocate and whistleblower in the Netflix documentary 'The Tinder Swindler.' "This Fraud Prevention Month, I am partnering with Mastercard to help empower people with tips to better identify fraud before it happens."

Too good to be true? It probably is! If an offer seems unbelievable or over-the-top, it may be a scam. Fraudsters might dangle promises of guaranteed wealth or pretend to be a friend or loved one in urgent need. Consider whether a message could really be true and verify its legitimacy.

Don't get swept up in pressure tactics: Scammers thrive on panic, pushing fake emergencies or "limited-time" deals to make you act fast. Pause, take a breath and consult a trusted source before making any decisions. Be wary of urgent requests for money — especially if they involve gift cards, wire transfers or cryptocurrency. If you haven't met in person, or if you are not sure, don't send funds!

Turn on transaction alerts to get notified of unusual activity. Regularly review financial statements and report anything unfamiliar. Identity thieves may open fraudulent accounts in your name. Credit monitoring services help flag suspicious activity early so you can take action before damage spreads.

Report it, don't ignore it: If you spot a scam, act quickly. Contact your bank to lock down your accounts, file a police report, and report fraud to agencies like the FTC or your local authorities. If unauthorized payments pop up, request a freeze or reversal ASAP. Many banks can stop fraudulent transfers if caught in time.

Zero Liability has your back: Financial institutions that issue Mastercard cards won't hold consumers responsible for "unauthorized transactions," provided they are promptly reported, and the cardholder used reasonable care in protecting the card from loss or theft. As a Mastercard cardholder, Zero Liability applies to your purchases made in the store, over the telephone, online or via a mobile device, and ATM transactions. With protections like that, paying with your card brings more peace of mind than paying with cash or check.

"Fraud prevention has come a long way since I met my scammer, but it is still important to learn the red flags, trust your gut and stay vigilant," said Fjellhøy. "Whether paying online, in stores, in apps or using a device, Mastercard provides valuable security benefits to help keep cardholders protected. That peace of mind is invaluable."

Whether you're sipping iced tea in the sun while hunting for deals online or exploring local markets in a new city, these tips will help keep you safe. So, embrace the season, stay scam smart, and with cyber smarts, enjoy your spring shopping!

Breathe easier at home and on the road with these 5 tips

I'm your Eyeball Acquisition Specialist! Achieving success in life, no matter the field, hinges on how many people you can connect with and make a positive impression on. Breathe easier at home and on the road with these 5 tips

(BPT) - How often do you think about your indoor air quality? While many might assume the risk of encountering pollutants and allergens only exists outside, these harmful toxins can't be left at the door and can actually pose an unseen threat in your home, your office and even your car.

Even the cleanest indoor spaces can have harmful particles wafting around the air. In fact, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, pollutants are two to five times more concentrated indoors, where Americans spend approximately 90% of their time.

From dust to dander to pollen and smoke, outdoor pollutants and indoor allergens can invade your personal spaces through the tiniest of entry points and negatively impact your health. Sustained exposure to poor air quality can lead to more serious health conditions.

Luckily, indoor air quality is something you can control. Take a look at these five simple tips that you can try to improve the air quality in your most frequented spaces so you can breathe easier and live healthier.

1. Vacuum frequently with a HEPA filter

Dust, allergens and pollutants can accumulate on your floors, carpets, car seats and more, and become airborne during daily activity. To promote healthier air quality, vacuum frequently using a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter.

When it comes to indoor air quality, HEPA filters are the gold standard. According to the Allergy & Asthma Network, these filters are designed to capture 99.7% of all particles 0.3 microns or smaller, including mold, pet dander, dust mites, pollen and some small particles from smoke and pollution.

Aim to vacuum the whole house once a week and high-traffic areas, like the kitchen, entryway and living room, two to three times a week. As for your car, give the seats and carpets a good vacuum about once a month.

2. Clean your car often

Have you considered your car's indoor air quality? Whether you spend hours commuting or making several quick trips around town, improving your in-car air quality is crucial. In addition to making changes like recirculating the air in the car instead of bringing polluted air from outdoors, you can improve your car's indoor air quality by cleaning it often.

Much like your home, your car accumulates dust. The American Lung Association recommends regularly wiping down the console, dashboard and door panels to reduce these and other air contaminants. Don't forget to vacuum the upholstery, floor and mats to get rid of dirt and debris.

3. Use air purifiers

One of the easiest ways to improve your indoor air quality is to use air purifiers throughout your house. These portable air cleaners draw in air and filter out allergens and pollutants, improving the health of your home.

Choose an effective model, such as the Bosch Air Series Purifier — which uses a 3-in-1 filter (including a HEPA layer) to remove over 99% of the impurities in the air, such as pollen, pet dander, dust, viruses and odors. Each purifier features smart sensors that detect pollutants and automatically adapt to the air quality and room. These quiet purifiers are available in three different sizes, so you can find the strength that best suits your needs.

4. Change air filters regularly (and not just in your home!)

Don't go too long in between changing your air filters. These key components are essential in protecting the air around you — not just in your home, but in your car, too. Many drivers either aren't aware of their car's cabin air filter at all or don't realize they need to replace it regularly, just as they replace the filter on their in-home HVAC unit. Over time, the particles the filter traps build up, clogging it and reducing its efficiency. To ensure you have continuous clean air, change your filters as often as your owner's manual recommends.

If your car mechanic has recently mentioned it's time to change the cabin air filter in your car, products like Bosch HEPA Cabin Air Filters can be a great solution for absorbing fumes, pollen, dust, mold spores, pollutants and odors that enter a vehicle, protecting you and other passengers from poor air quality.

Bosch recommends replacing your cabin air filter every 12,000 miles or so. You can find the cabin air filter behind the glove compartment or under the dashboard.

Graphic that shows how a cabin air filter works in a car.

5. Use natural products

What you use to clean your home and car may actually be polluting your air, as many conventional cleaning products are made with harsh chemicals.

Air fresheners can also be a source of hazardous pollutants. Be it a cardboard freshener hanging around your rearview mirror or a plug-in freshener in your living room, these products have been known to emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that could compromise your health.

You can keep your spaces clean and minimize toxic chemicals in the air you breathe by opting for natural products. The next time you visit the store, look for nontoxic air fresheners and green or eco-friendly cleaning products that contain natural, plant-based ingredients.

Using these five simple tips, you can improve your in-home and in-car air quality and keep it clean for seasons to come.

Cameras capture stunning moments from The Big Game powered by Bigdoggpinc

I am your Eyeball Acquisition Specialist. Success in life, in anything, depends upon the number of persons that one can make himself agreeable to. US online shopping has been growing in popularity over the past few years, as evidenced by the increasing number of people choosing to purchase goods and services over the internet. Bigdoggpinc is helping solidify trust from gaining your confidence 1 person at a time if I have to.

Cameras capture stunning moments from The Big Game

(BPT) - When it comes to capturing the magic of sports, you need the right equipment. Every touchdown, goal, foul, and play should be caught with stunning clarity so whether fans are at the stadium or at home, they can enjoy every minute of the game.

That's why when FOX Network was tasked with airing the live broadcast of football's Big Game Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, the vast majority* of lenses used were from a leader in digital imaging solutions: Canon.

Quality equipment delivers captivating moments

Fans across the nation were treated to a riveting experience when they watched the live broadcast of the match between Philadelphia and Kansas City. More than 95% of the lenses used by FOX during the championship tilt in New Orleans, Louisiana, were Canon. That includes 62 broadcast lenses for the live game broadcast and 29 of the 30 total lenses deployed for the pre- and postgame shows.

In the stadium, a total of 16 Canon UJ122x8.2 lenses filmed the live broadcast. Three of those lenses featured new, on-demand optical units. These units help extend the focus range to provide viewers with a shallow depth of field at a distance that would normally require a telephoto field lens.

To capture unique angles from the SkyCam, the FOX crew used Canon's CJ20ex5B IASE S, a versatile broadcast electronic news-gathering camera with telephoto reach that doesn't sacrifice a wide-angle view. Also, C300 Mark III cameras (capable of ultra-high frame rates) provided astonishing shots of the 50-yard line.

The professional's choice

Among the many credentialed photographers at the event, the majority* used Canon equipment, including the company's EOS R1 mirrorless camera. This camera is geared toward professional still photographers. It brings together Canon's cutting-edge technology and combines top-class performance with the strong durability and high reliability expected from a flagship model.

"With more than 30 years of experience using Canon cameras, I couldn't be more pleased with the quality and reliability of their products, especially the new EOS R1 camera," said Steve Sanders, Kansas City's team photographer. "As a professional who relies on all types of Canon gear every day, the versatility and outstanding quality of their equipment make Canon the clear choice for my team."

Jamie Squire, Getty Images' chief sports photographer, was also impressed with the picture quality and the camera's ease of use.

"This was the first time using the new Canon R1's during the Big Game and they performed beautifully," said Squire. "Even in lower lighting, shooting wide open at 2.8, the autofocus was fast and the images were crisp and razor sharp. The built-in ethernet port and transmission technology allowed me to send images to our team of editors and out into the world within moments of the capturing the action. Additionally, the customization of the buttons and controls allowed for a seamless experience while working, especially during a big event like this when there is no time to be messing around. The Canon system and the knowledge of how to use it provided me with the confidence to perform at my best."

Outstanding support when you need it most

The photography equipment wasn't the only Canon presence in the Big Easy. For the title game, the Canon Professional Services (CPS) team was on-site to offer photographers technical support, equipment loan opportunities and clean-and-check services.

This isn't the first time the company has provided support. As in years past, the CPS team brought in loaner gear to supplement cameras and lenses owned by Canon professionals. Canon technicians were also in attendance to provide cleaning and maintenance services for Canon broadcast lenses to help ensure optimal image quality.

"We are very proud that Canon's equipment and service support could contribute to the Big Game, which remains one of the world's most prestigious sporting events," said Kiyoshi Oka, executive vice president and general manager for Canon U.S.A., Inc. "Helping to provide the tools for photographers and broadcasters to document such an important moment for the culture is a privilege that means so much to us at Canon, and contributing to the enjoyment that millions of people derive from watching the game is a source of pride for our company."

Never miss a moment

Whether you're a professional or an aspiring amateur, choose photography equipment trusted to capture every second of football's Big Game. For more information about Canon's extensive lineup of professional imaging products, please visit USA.Canon.com/Pro.
